Glasses are often expensive, and it's important to take care of them to keep them in good condition. Fortunately, you can clean them quickly and easily. The best way to do this is with warm water and dish soap. When you're away from home, use a spray cleaner or wipes. Cleaning your glasses every day will keep your vision pristine and keep them looking as good as new for as long as possible.
Use warm water and dish soap
Wash your hands . Before cleaning your glasses, wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and non-moisturizing soap. You must remove all dirt and grease from them before touching your glasses
Rinse your glasses. Run a gentle stream of warm water over them. Rotate your glasses so that both sides of the lenses and the entire surface of the frame and temples are wet .
- Hot water is bad for lenses, protective coatings, and frames. Always use lukewarm water.
Soap the glasses. Gently coat them with dish soap, working it into a lather with your fingers. Put a small drop of dish soap without moisturizer on each lens. Use your fingertips in small circular motions to work the product into a lather on both sides of the lenses, as well as on the frame and temples
Clean the nose bridges. Rub them with a cotton pad or a soft toothbrush, applying gentle pressure. Scrub their surface as well as the area between the bridges and the frame. If using a toothbrush, make sure it has soft bristles .
- Avoid rubbing the lenses with a toothbrush, even a soft one. If there is dirt between the lenses and the frame, remove it with a cotton pad.
Rinse your glasses. Run them under running water again to remove all the dish soap. Make sure you remove all of it, as any soap residue will leave marks on the lenses
Shake your glasses. Turn off the tap and gently shake your glasses to remove the water. Make sure the lenses are completely clean. If you see any streaks on them, clean them again
Dry your glasses. Fold a clean microfiber cloth over both sides of one lens. Use your fingertips to dry them in small circular motions, then repeat with the other lens. Wipe the nose bridges, then rub the frame and temples with the cloth to dry and polish them
Clean your glasses quickly
Apply a spray cleaner. You can buy spray-on eyeglass cleaner at a pharmacy or optician's. If you're away from home and don't have access to a sink and dish soap, apply a generous amount of this product to your glasses to remove dirt and debris .
- Some opticians give away free samples of eyeglass cleaner.
- If you have anti-reflective glasses, make sure the cleaner you use is suitable for anti-reflective coating.
Wipe your glasses. After applying the spray, carefully wipe your glasses to remove the cleaner. Fold a microfiber cloth over both sides of one lens and rub it with your fingertips in a circular motion to absorb the cleaner. Then use the cloth to dry the frame and temples
Use wipes. You can quickly clean your lenses with eyeglass cleaner wipes. Start by gently blowing on them to remove dust and dirt. Then, gently rub them with a wipe using small circular motions. Once the glasses are clean, dry them with a microfiber cloth .
- Only use wipes specifically designed for cleaning glasses. If you have anti-reflective glasses, make sure the wipes are suitable for the anti-reflective coating.
Cleaning your glasses daily
Clean your glasses daily. Do this every morning and whenever necessary during the day. Make it a habit to clean your glasses every morning. Check them throughout the day and touch them up as needed .
- If your glasses are kept clean and streak-free, they will scratch less easily
Use a hard case. When you're not wearing your glasses, store them in a hard case. Don't just put them in your bag and avoid placing the lenses on a hard surface. When not in use, place them in a hard case that's the right size for them. If the case is too large, the glasses could turn inside out and get damaged
Wash the cloths. Wash the microfiber cloths you use to wipe your glasses often. They retain grease and dirt, and should be washed after two or three uses. Some cloths are machine washable. Check their care instructions and wash them accordingly.
- If your cloth is not machine washable or you are unsure, hand wash it with dish soap, wring it out and let it air dry
se suitable cloths. Do not wipe your glasses with your clothes, paper towels, or tissues. All of these materials contain fine debris that can scratch the lenses. Also, do not wipe the lenses when they are dry, as this may scratch them .
- You may find it convenient to blow on your glasses before wiping them with your t-shirt, but you risk scratching the lenses.
Warnings
- Never clean your glasses with hot water, acetone, saliva, glass cleaner, or other harsh detergents.
